Promoting better health through improved nutrition

The Health Division at Community Resource Project, Inc. houses a variety of programs intended to provide additional health-related services to the families we serve.

The Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program (WIC) is a federal program designed to provide food to low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children until the age of five. The program provides a combination of nutrition education, supplemental foods, breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care and social service agencies. The WIC Program is available to eligible participants without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or handicap.

The purpose of the WIC program is to prevent health problems and to improve the health of program participants during critical times of growth and development. WIC has a commitment to help participants improve their health status through better nutrition. Participants can seek WIC services at one of eight convenient locations throughout Sacramento County, some offering extended hours.  The experienced and personable Health Division staff offers services in many languages including sign language for the hearing impaired. For more information about WIC click HERE.

In addition to the WIC Program, supplemental grants related to breastfeeding promotion and support help us recruit and retain Lactation Consultants and provide breastfeeding services to the diverse population in Sacramento County and specialized training for staff.

The Health Division also serves as a preceptor/training facility for dietetic interns, undergraduate nutrition students pursuing a career in dietetics or other nutrition-related field.  Our staff operates a regional paraprofessional training center with curricula specific to nutrition and breastfeeding topics for new-to-WIC staff, WIC Nutrition Assistants and other health educators

The Health Division is also home to immunization/well-baby clinics available at select sites to assist families with receiving immunizations for their children and finding a medical home for continuous care.
